Moments that Matter

Spöckmeier, Munich

First time abroad since Lanzarote with the family when James and I were younger. Can say I wasn't too fearful or apprehensive of the flight, there were a few tummy flips and wobbles but nothing to worry about - pre-flight Desperados may have played a vital role regards the tame nerves. Once I parted with my suitcase, we both began our wee journey.
The trip linked to our HNC Jewellery design course and our main activity involved the Schmuck German Jewellery Craft Fair on Saturday (DAS Handwerk) and Sunday (Pinakothek Der Moderne) however we had loads of free time and managed to venture around the centre of Munich.
The flight smoothly landed around 2:00pm whereby we gathered our belongings and set off to the A&O Hostel. Once we arrived we all freshened up and headed to the Galerie Handwerk which greeted us with an autumn tree covered in bright, vibrant artificial flower petals (a rainbow tree). The gallery exhibitted some unique, delicate and unusual jewellery pieces including a pendant which consisted of a 15" laptop suspended from a thick red plaited rope or a mole hill of used, groggy Pall Mall fag butts. We then had some freetime whereby we headed back into Karlzplatz and wandered through Marienplatz to find somewhere for food. It took us a few hours to settle down but while doing so we rested in the above pub with a pint/drink in hand for a reviver. Once rehydrated we had a daunder around Munich until we settled into Bohne and Maiz for some lovely scran (Cornflake coated Chicken in a curried Mango sauce - delish, accompanied by a Hugo cocktail - elderflower syrup, lime, prosecco, mint leaves and ice). We finished off and headed back to the hostel however we encountered some troubles when trying to drunkenly work out the Underground/Subway set up as the network isn't as straightforward as the easy Glasgow loop. We jamp off at the wrong station before being guided onto the right tracks again. Once getting back to the hostel we had a few refreshments in the lobby, catching up on everyones days events then having a catch up in room 123 (M,E, A and R) followed by some zzzZ's.

It was a fun packed day leading to a fantastic weekend.

(included: Aileen doing a wee fun, 'excited to be in Munich' pose :-)
