Thank you @RotaryWW #Zanzibar

We are incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club of West Worthing for raising money to provide a Community Water Tank in the village of Uzi in Zanzibar.

Wells exist in many schools and villages but there are no storage tanks attached and the pumps used to draw water to the surface burn out if used continuously, so they are restricted for use a few hours a day. This creates many challenges for the community. In order to meet their needs people supplement with less safe sources of water, which can be contaminated by waterborne diseases such as Cholera, of which there are regular, deadly outbreaks on the island.

Thanks to the Rotary Club of West Worthing we have provided a water tank with tap stand for a community, giving a reliable and easy way to draw a supply of safe drinking water available 24 hours per day. This has freed up women and children’s time for more productive activity, such as going to school and earning much needed income.

The community is now protected from water-borne and parasitic diseases which thrive in the dirty water they often resort to when supplies from the wells are cut off to protect the electric pumps.

The health and economic prospects of the community are now benefiting from this continuous supply of safe, clean water.

Thank you Rotary Club of West Worthing!
