Rosslyn Park National Sevens Tournament

I am uploading late tonight as I have been at the Rosslyn Park National Sevens Tournament with Luke all day. This is the world's largest tournament with schools competing from all over the UK and from some foreign countries. The event was first held in 1939, and has been held every year since, becoming one of the oldest continuous tournaments for schools and the oldest ongoing schoolboy rugby tournament in the United Kingdom. It was intended to be a knock-out competition for English public schools but as interest grew it was extended to include state schools (both grammar and comprehensive) and preparatory schools and in 1998 the first girls (U18) competition was inaugurated.

Enough of the history - the boys played 4 matches, with about an hour's wait in between each match. Then it started raining and got really cold and really muddy, and we had a long wait to see if they had made it through to the next round...and they had. They finally finished their last match at about 5.30pm which they won, and very cold, tired and very muddy we went home. This is Luke powering through the defending line to go on and score a try.

We got home, washed the mud off, and rushed out to Thomas' spring term music concert which was a lovely way to relax after the excitement of the rugby.

Tomorrow, Luke's team have qualified to go into the second day of matches - very exciting!.... and hopefully it won't be as cold.
