The Queen & Her Court

Zihuatanejo's version of Carneval is in full swing this week. Since Sunday, we have heard announcements, entertainment, and music from the large stage erected at the basketball court across the bay from our apartments. This goes on until very late (by our North American standards) in the evening. Tonight we ventured into town for dinner and luckily stumbled upon a parade in progress. It is not the large, boisterous end of the event parade I photographed last year, but a youngster's version. The queen was transported through the streets of Zihua on top of a truck, smiling and waving the entire distance. On arrival, she and her entire court posed for numerous photos before being escorted to the stage to preside over the night's festivities.
