Cottiers Theatre

Daniel Cottier was one of 19th Century Scotland’s leading lights; a designer of enormous talent and influence internationally, he has ironically been much overlooked in his native country.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh will always be recognised as one of Scotland’s best known architects but Cottier perhaps will have more acclaim worldwide as he spent much of his career abroad working with William Leiper and became a major influence within international circles.

This is a picture of Dowanhill Church, more commonly known as Cottiers Theatre, and is one of only three major Scottish churches famously decorated by Cottier that has survived from the 19th Century.
