Emma D's diary

At home: Comfort food....

There is nothing as simple and as warming as a pancake on a cold rainy evening. Its got to be the simplest and cheapest pudding to cook.

To be honest, we had come inside frozen and soaked to the skin. The pony Jack was having a couple suspect Sarcoid lumps removed from his 'down bellows' (thats how Sam described the location of the lumps to the vet)

It was a little like a scene from the old 'James Herriot' TV series. Driving sleety rain, the vet on his knees under a heavily doped horse, stood in a drenched cold field. I at the nose end, dragging the horse forward as he swayed to and fro in a sedated sleep. (Horses can remain in their feet in these situations....only just) The nurse shivering the field surgical instruments in their tin. Blood dripping into the green grass. Jack the horse not at all shifting to the stitches pushing through him "down bellows" and holding together the now lump less wound.

Its gone off for testing. We drank tea, outside in the rain waiting for Jack to wake up. We all shivered. Time for hot, simple and sweet pancakes. Its the only thing that can help in times like this!.....x
