My Best Efforts - Year 3

So Very Blue!.......

..........are the Muscari - aka Grape Hyacinths - growing next to my very old stone birdbath. At the bottom right can be seen the leaves of a Heuchera - still with the raindrops from last night, - and named after Johann Henrich von Heucher - 1677-1746.

John Parkinson, the early herbalist, - 1567 - 1650 - wrote that muscari "will quickly choke a ground for which cause most men do cast it into some bye corner"
He was the last of the great English herbalists and one of the first of the great English botanists. He was apothecary to James I and a founding member of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in December 1617, and was later Royal Botanist to Charles I. . One of the most eminent gardeners of his day, he kept a botanical garden at Long Acre in Covent Garden, today close to Trafalgar Square.

Now for my BOUI - (bit of useless information!) :-

Superstition: It was bad luck to wear the colour blue onstage, unless it was countered with something silver.
In the early days of theatre, blue was an extremely difficult dye colour to create, and therefore was very expensive. Any theatre company spending so much money on costumes was sure to close without turning a profit. Unless, of course, they were wearing silver too, which was an indicator that the entire company was being funded by a VERY wealthy source; wealthy enough to afford silver adornments.

Anni has just phoned me - she is sitting in Orlando Airport waiting for her flight to Pittsburg where the weather is not great apparently! Knowing her, she won't let that spoil her time there!

Weather here is both sunny and cloudy - temperature around 50 Deg F. - not bad at all.

The weekend is nearly upon us again - have a good one!

sooc - looks better on large
