No One Is Listening

The near-windless Shetland weather continues. I walked from the house along Quendale Beach then onto Garths Ness at the southern end of Fitful Head. This headland has had it's share of dramas over recent years from the Braer wrecking in 1993, through to the Super Puma crash last summer.

I spent some time exploring the abandoned buildings on the top of Garths Ness. These are usually, somewhat mysteriously, referred to as The Listening Station.

I think the buildings were built as part of the LORAN navigation system in the early 1960's, but now with the glimpse of the setting sun behind them they look rather post-apocalyptic.
