Kite's new home

Another day busy with spade & fork in the garden and again didn't manage to take a photo. Luckily Angie lent me one.

After the kite's reappeared two weeks ago, we haven't seen much of them directly on our property. On Monday saw them on a horse field enjoying the slurry and on Wednesday literally nearly tripped over them about 50m from the house as we went through the forest for our walk. Think they were collecting nest building material on the ground.

Today Angie spent hours with the camera on a tripod taking photos mainly of wild birds. The kites did appear for a while and had a romantic interlude in one of the trees near the stables. She caught the act on camera but it's not the sort of thing one makes public. Then she spotted the new nest and they are visible from the house but only just. The youngish deciduous trees in the foreground are now getting in the way and when in leaf will probably block the view. Need to borrow one of MrB's hunting perches or build Angie a lookout on the horse stable roof.

Angie is delighted at having found them. For the last 4 years or so they have been nesting here, Angie has always followed their progress with delight, not only as it means our chickens are safe now for the summer. Normally she gets upset if I trim back any bushes or trees but for the kites she would probably grab the chainsaw and cut down a few trees to get a clear view of the nest.
