Vienna Doorway

Before taking a taxi to the airport, we finally, for the first time, visited The Secession near our hotel. Its main attraction, in the basement is Gustav Klimt's Beethoven Frieze, which he painted in 1902 as part of an exhibition to display the vision of the artists grouped as the Vienna Secession of a Gesamtkunstwerk, an artistic display grouping of all the arts.

This is a doorway around the corner from our hotel which we have passed every day--very representative of Vienna's architecture altogether :) I've marked the exact location on the map!

After the exhibition, the Beethoven Frieze endured all sorts of vicissitudes before it was acquired by Vienna, properly restored, and reassembled in its current location.

The flight back to Paris was smooth. We sleep here tonight (missing an hour due to Daylight Saving Time) and then take a very early train from the Gare de l'Est to visit friends in the Champagne.
