Museums View--Vienna

We returned today to the Kunsthistorisches Museum--Vienna's equivalent of the Louvre or the Met in NYC. We had paid a number of visits on our trip last November, and among other things it was wonderful to experience again the unique gallery of superb Pieter Breughels.

This time we also visited the Kunstkammer (I had erroneously called it the Schatzkammer), including hundreds of special objects collected since the 17th century, and we were more impressed than ever. The link has videos showing a ship and other mechanical models in operation--utterly fascinating.

This is a view from just inside the entrance to the museum, as we were leaving in the late afternoon. Through the grill appears its exact architectural counterpart, the Natural History Museum, with a elaborate sculpture in the center of the park separating them.
