Green

That glorious interval where birds are anxious to be seen, and the leaves are only just starting to burst. My weekly wander around my patch resulted in 2 firsts: a goldcrest and a linnet. I've seen plenty of the latter in the vicinity, but today was the first on the actual small area I call my patch. There were also the usual yellowhammers, becoming increasingly visible and vocal, and since last week, numerous chiffchaffs have arrived. The biggest thrill, however, was another sighting of a Green Woodpecker yaffling loudly high up in the trees. The light was poor - the sun struggled to break through the haze, so it was hard to get a shot at that distance, but it was very mild, and I was delighted with my couple of hours' birding.
