Shylock

A pound of flesh taken from a man
is not so estimable, profitable neither,
as flesh of muttons, beefs, or goats.

The Merchant of Venice, Act 1, Scene 3

There are three things that surprise me about this image:

That a McDonald’s quarter pounder was the first thing that came into my mind when thinking about “a pound of flesh”
That I went to McDonald’s and bought it.
That Igor ate it, albeit reluctantly, for his lunch.

Shylock could have had 4 of these if he had actually won his case.

Today's poem for the National Poem Writing Month

There’s enough
Money in the world for us all
But the people who’ve got it
Won’t share

Not enough
Concern in the world for us all
And the people who’ve got it
Despair
