Commonwealth Connections

Seems to be a bit of a theme this week....

As it's the first Thursday of the month, it was an Insights & Ideas afternoon (and the launch of the Get Scotland Dancing programme in the morning). The theme this month was Commonwealth Connections - featuring projects connected to the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme.

Excellent afternoon of discussion with Louise Welsh talking about The Empire Cafe, which looks at Scotland's involvement in the North Atlantic slave trade, with tea & cakes; Svend Brown talking about the Big Big Sing, getting choirs across the country involved; Jane Crowe on the Generation project looking at contemporary art in Scotland over the last 25 years; and Drew Taylor on his 44 Stories project - about the 44 countries in the Commonwealth where homosexuality is still illegal. I'm very excited about all of these projects and it was great to hear from those making such exciting and important work happen.
