Take me out to the ballgame

. . . . but, since we live in the Pacific Northwest, maybe it's best to wait until summer.

Tonight was opening night for the Tacoma Rainiers, the Triple A team for the Seattle Mariners. Since somebody-I-know is a huge baseball fan, as a Valentine's day gift, I got him a pair of tickets for tonight's opening game, and what great seats we had! It was a home game in Cheney Stadium, down in Tacoma, a stadium neither of us had ever been to.

However -

The above image of a tarp-covered field is what we stared at for the entire evening. We've enjoyed glorious spring weather all week - - until tonight. It was very cold, very windy, and spitting rain. Quite frankly, it was a miserable night to be outdoors for any reason. We grabbed some big, fat hotdogs and a beer, and were desperately seeking a warm dry spot to consume the food and drink. I was ready to go eat in the ladies room, or the men's room - whatever! After we ate, they announced a rain delay.

So we sat. And waited. And waited some more, staring at the above tarp-covered field. Luckily it stopped raining, and we had a warm blanket to throw across our laps, and then the Mariner's game was shown (on the screen that says Muckleshoot), so that helped while away the time.

Finally, by 8:00pm, we had had enough, and, like many other folks, decided to leave. As we walked towards the exit, an announcement came over the PA system, confirming that they decided to cancel the game due to inclement weather.

Oh well. It would've been great to see the game, but in the company of such a delightful companion, it was still a fun evening. And -- we can still use tonight's tickets to catch any other home game of our choice.

We've decided to wait until July to try again!
