the sound of music...

...not just any music...the sound of two metal pieces colliding to create a resonating divine sound...a sound that is often used in Hindu devotional music...it is believed that the sound arising out of these brass cymbals has the power to travel great distances...it is believed that if one 'plays' these cymbals with a pure and honest heart, its sound can even reach the Gods up there...

these belong to my mother...when I came back from work, I fond these lying on my bed...she is a very devotional woman and spends a lot of her time everyday in 'praising the lord'...having a home within walking distance of the most famous temple of Kolkata does help a lot...In fact, she picked up singing lessons a few years ago only because she wanted to sing the devotional songs in the correct note...she sings those songs not to please anyone else rather, just to be at peace with herself...and all this without affecting any of her daily chores for herself or the family...people from West Bengal generally have a gene of art...it surfaces - sometimes early in life, sometimes late...but it surfaces for sure...

[Edit]: As an afterthought, I probably should have included something to provide a sense of scale...these cymbals are not as big as the ones used in a drum set of a rock band...these are rather quite small and each is held with the support of the thumb and index finger.
