If you can't beat them...

Day 3: Mallard Drake.

We all woke non the worse for the night being an hour shorter. We were continuing down the Staffs & Worcs canal.

One of the many joys of being on the canal for me is the wildlife. The wildlife does not seem to associate the slow moving narrowboat with people, as a result you can with a little care get remarkably close to birds and animals. Taking photos of them is rather more tricky Firstly you have to make sure you have set your ISO set high enough to allow a fast shutter speed and secondly if you are at the stern (where I generally find myself) you have the vibrations from the engine to cope with. Shots from the bow are a little easier as it is quieter with no engine vibrations.

We moored for the night not far from the Bratch Flight of locks which is quite unlike any flight of locks I have ever experienced. Fortunately Katkatkat and clickychick walked down and "sussed" everything out ready for the next day.
