Cold Winter

Fantastic evening at Oran Mor to see Malcolm Middleton supported by Aiden Moffat.

I've seen them both numerous times performing live however not together onstage in their previous form as Arab Strap.

I was backstage at Barrowlands once when they did a brief set which was, contrary to the record books, their first gig.

I heard them but didn't see them.

I have since seen each perform along with other artists and solo but never together and now Arab Strap as a performing group has been consigned to the fabulous history of Scottish music.

Moffat is without doubt the Scottish poet of his generation, his humour and oratory skills making, often, mundane Falkirk scenes come brilliantly to life.

He regailed us with songs and poetry about love, death, birth, sex, domestic violence and humility.

Middleton's musical ability is exceptional, his writing moving, and often humourous, and his guitar skill outstanding.

His songs often about (failed) relationships and his music are at their best when performed solo with acoustic guitar.

The show was recorded for consideration of later release however it's difficult to figure if Middleton enjoyed himself as dour is his middle name.

Great stuff.
