Life from a City

The Ghost of Clean Buildings

Chantler's April 2014 Shakespeare Challenge - eyesore

Eyesore was used in The Taming of the Shrew, and was used to mean something ugly, which hurt the eyes.

This picture is part of what was a gorgeous, white, 1930's art deco building - part of a hospital. It finishes with curved balconies, and must have been fantastic to see when first built. Unfortunately, time in a city - particularly through the Leeds smog of the late fifties, has taken its toll. But I was rather struck by this cleaner part - which looks a bit like a ghost. Perhaps it is the ghost of the architect, George Corson, declaring it an eyesore that needs cleaning up?....
