Wartime Pill box

Cleaning a house in Great Oakley today and noticed the strange front garden orament a few doors down it seems like a real war Pill box seems strange to me to have it in the middle of a small village?
you never know what you might see to blip do you :-}
I will have to do some research on this subject.
We have several Pill box's up the Naze on the sea edge although the elderly people I have cared for have told me they were all on the cliffs in the war ,the cliffs have fallen into the sea and taken most things with them over the years.
It just seems strange to me why that one is there must ask if the lady knows about it next time we go.
