On the Road Home - Creston to Kamloops

Winter snow in melt,
fills rivers and lakes to give
life in all its forms.

We were up and gone by 7 AM this morning. We were blessed with sunshine for the entire trip.
We were zooming by the south end of Kootenay Lake as the sunshine began to fill the valley. (photo #1) The Kootenay Bay Ferry is about an hour north of Creston. We didn't have long to wait as we could see the vehicle ferry in the distance as we pulled into the loading area. Beside the parking area a couple of Canada geese had come out of the water to graze the perimeter. (photo #2)

After the short ferry ride to Balfour we turned north heading to Kaslo on the north arm of Kootenay Lake. The tops of the local mountains still had a wintery look. We stopped on the highway to watch deer cross in front of us. They didn't seem to pay any attention to traffic. (photo #3) In Kaslo we noticed a boat chugging along on the lake heading for the marina. (photo #4)

At Kaslo we turned west again towards New Denver and Nakusp. Through each mountain pass the snow was still piled high and there was water moving in creeks and streams. (photo #5) After a stop in Nakusp for lunch, we were on our way west again. One more ferry ride at Fauquier crossing the Arrow Lake brought us to the last lap.

We stopped for coffee and a doughnut in Vernon. That left us with 90 minutes remaining in our trip home. I got a shot of Monte Lake on highway 97 (photo #6) which meant only 45 minutes were left before home appeared.
