Chaenomeles ‘Orange Storm’

This hybrid Chaenomeles is not your grandmother’s flowering quince. This has an amazing color, enormous 2 inch flowers with over 30 petals each, and blooms further out to the tips than the species. Still great for flower arrangements (esp., since it’s easier to cut as it is thornless), though it doesn’t have fruit which I like for wildlife. This is part of the ‘Double Take’ series developed by Spring Meadow Nursery. I have two of these just WAITING for the right place to plant them. Given that they seem to re-bloom occasionally, they need to be compatible with summer flowers in the area. Bright orange will likely place them near the vegetable garden where I tend to put exuberant crayon-colored flowers.
