first glimpse

this is our first glimpse of beautiful iceland. from what we've seen so far, it's baron, wild - there can be nothing for miles then some amazing mountains...it's very cool. we could see a few geysers steaming from the plane and snow on the hills.

it's not totally unlike more extreme parts of scotland, but the colours are different and it's more extreme. it's all brown and volcanic black, then white snow and blue sky. when we landed we were surprised that it wasn't that cold.

from keflavik airport the bus took about 45 minutes to get to reykjavik so we saw a bit of the landscape en route - quite a few stone sculptures all over the place which look ace. reykjavik is right on the southwest coast with huge mountains across the water - we have a great view of them from our hotel.

we were knackered when we got to the hotel and it was about 10pm, but we went for a walk right along the water to the concert hall near the centre. there are loads of ace buildings - really scandinavian looking with corrugated facings, painted in lovely muted colours.

loving it so far!
