Moon and Mars

Moon and Mars

Well, it went something like this: "That's the end of the weather forecast for the North East, but it is going to be a very clear night and there will be a clear view of the 'Red Planet' Mars in near alignment with the full moon". This, rather subliminally, registered in my mind and was soon forgotten. Later that night I happened to glance out of the window and saw an incredibly bright full moon with a fairly bright planet (reddish) sitting above it. At around 11:30pm, after fiddling around with the Nikon and re-learning various manual settings etc, I went into the garden and experimented with various shots and exposures.

This is a big learning curve and I did not have an appropriate telephoto lens, just an ordinary old thing. I eventually managed to get this rather amateurish and 'blurrish' shot. Hopefully, I will get better at this type of thing in the future - but it is difficult fumbling about in the pitch black with a camera and so many little buttons !

I think that is Mars above the Moon !! I may be wrong - but who cares....

As for materiality? Well, is there really a world that is 'out there' and that pre-exists your existence? Not really, as you are just made of material particles that have been there since the Big Bang. We all come from a singularity - or so 'they?' say. We are all effectively the same age and the same thing in substance. Our view of science, and scientific knowledge is also socially constructed. Does the social construction come from our material substance combinations?

As Orlikowski says: "There is nothing material that is not social, and nothing social that is not material"

A thought for the day ... Perhaps Venus next, where is it??
