Scorchio at Haweswater

Scorchio at Haweswater

At last! Bright blue skies, cloudless, hot and no wind. It was a perfect day to go walking in the Lakes, in this instance near Penrith. It is not an overly popular tourist spot but spectacular none the less. The walk was pretty tough, starting at Haweswater and then a very steep climb and scramble up to nearly 3000 feet. Then, a circular walk to the West and South, followed by a long descent which was very tough on the knees. A good time was had by all, the only downside being dehydration - despite seeing water all around us.

The material in question was lots of ancient volcanic rocks. In the distance you could see Shap quarry, home of the famous Shap Granite, or Adamellite, with a lovely pinky hue when polished. The social was typified by the walkers with kids and dogs and of all ages, enjoying the beautiful scenery, tranquillity against the rugged hard granite terrain. The material was the foundation for the social and pulled people here from all over the country.

We will come again :)
