A Sorry Sight

Chantler's April 2014 Shakespeare Challenge - A Sorry Sight

Picture the scene. A darkened castle hall.... there are quiet footsteps, and we find Lady Macbeth and then her husband. He looks at his hands, covered in the blood of his king, his liege, and, more to the point, his guest. And he says, "A sorry sight". Was he sorry? Or was he recognising how beyond societies acceptability this was. To harm a guest in your house, in clan Scotland, was unforgiveable.

Well, I don't have any blood to hand, but I have a suburban acceptability issue. You see, here in the suburbs, we are supposed to keep our gardens.... respectable. They can be meadows of wild flowers (as much as you can fit on a small garden), vegetables, or neat flowers. What they are not supposed to be are repositories for drunken nights out. Its not my garden - but reasonably close. Its not as heinous as murdering your guest, of course, but having watched the finest roses on the street go to rack and ruin in the last 5 years.... its a really sorry sight.
