Making Merit

Although April is Thailand's hottest month, and maybe because it's the hottest month, a lot of water is involved. Before, after, and during the Thai New Year water fight festival people go to Buddhist temples to pour water over statues like this.

There are actually similar small setups all over the city, at the schools, shopping centers, and even at my apartment complex. From what I understand, you take a scoop of the flower-scented water and pour it over the statue as a symbol of thanksgiving and good luck for the new year.
