My Best Efforts - Year 3

By AMC

I forgot the Hot Cross Buns.......

..........and the nearby shop has sold out so I give you Cranesbill instead - couldn't be more different!
These are the first ones open this year - I think they are early and quite pretty. The unopen buds look rather like gooseberries!!

Large is better!

They are really good in a cottage garden and the leaves are quite pungent - not liked by everyone, though I do like the smell. They are a bit rampant and do have to be chopped back ruthlessly or they spread like wildfire! (at least, mine do!)

My BOUI for today:-

1) Other Names for this plant include Spotted Geranium, Spotted Cranesbill, Wood Geranium, Spotted Cranesbill, Wild Cranesbill, Crowfoot, Dove's-foot, Old Maid's Nightcap, Shameface, hardy geranium, wild geranium.

2) The Wild Geranium rhizome is rich in tannin and was used by early American settlers to tan hides.

3) A tea of Wild Geranium flowers is an effective counter to many love spells. A bit of the root can be carried as an amulet to attract happiness and prosperity. It can also be used in spells to encourage conception, successful pregnancy and safe childbirth, especially in sympathetic spells.

4) Apparently the Moon is in Scorpio: This is a Water sign. It is a good time to sow Leaf plants like Basil, Brussels Sprouts, Cabbages, Celeriac, Celery, Dill, Kale, Lettuce, Rhubarb, Spinach, Swiss Chard.

The weather is a mix of sun and cloud though at the moment there is more cloud! Temperature at 48 Deg.F. - not that warm!

Enjoy the long weekend everyone - if you get Easter eggs don't eat them all at once - if you don't, enjoy it anyway.
