The Kiltwalk

What's "Your" Final Kiltwalk Preparations

Yesterday’s Blipfoto was a picture of the outside of The Beacon building on St. Vincent Street, which is where my company have their new Glasgow office and I love it.

It’s a corner office with plenty of light and a view that stretches all the way down to George Square and beyond. As I'm on the 7th floor, it also provides an excellent close up view of some of Glasgow’s stunning architecture, as I think our rooftop architecture is one of the city’s best kept secrets. Next time you’re in town take a moment to look up at the sandstone buildings and you’ll see what I mean. You see Glasgow, as this blipfoto will pay testament to, always likes to look it's best.

The office is also favourably placed to nip into the Kiltwalk HQ, which I’ve timed as 78 seconds door to door, to nick a few Kiltwalk pens when I’ve run out. By the way, a tip for anyone visiting into the KW Office. Pop over to Marks & Spencer across the road and purchase some cookies or pastries, they always go down a treat with the team.

One of the downsides of working in such close to proximity to The Kiltwalk is that Oor Zoey seems to keep fleecing me for lunch at Martha’s, which I’d highly recommend. For the avoidance of doubt I mean Martha’s is recommended, not taking Zoey for lunch, although she wouldn’t refuse any offer :-)

Today’s picture was taken with Zoey during our Tuesday lunch date, which for once, she was paying for. I complemented her on the latest Kiltwalk email, “12 days to go” which had me thinking about how prepared I was.

Have I raised enough money? well not yet. Have I done enough training? Well that answer is also no, but I’ll manage.

We walked along Bothwell Street discussing the impact of all Oor Kiltwalkers raising an extra £10 on top of their final total i.e. we know you’re all raising hundreds and thousands of pounds for The Kiltwalk and Scotland’s Children, however we realised that if we all squeezed out that extra amount it would mean an extra £60,000 for our great causes.

We then started talking about Oor Kiltwalkers and wondered what you were all up to? How was the training going? how were the blisters? Are all the trainers worn in? and we marvelled at the effort everyone one puts in and wondered how you manage to do it as it takes a huge effort and we appreciate it hugely.

As the sun continued to shine we crossed Bothwell Street, to get to the sunny side and enjoy it’s warmth, and it was then I looked in the glass shop front and laughed as I saw the sight in today's Blipfoto before me.

As we all train, fund raise and start to get excited about the day, I saw Mhairi, our Kiltwalk Head of Marketing sprawled out, chilling, while she got her eyebrows threaded for Kiltwalk Day. I guess a girl just has to do, what a girl has to do.

So Kiltwalk Girls, how many of you are getting your eyebrows done, nails painted, extensions fitted and spray tans done for Kiltwalk Day, probably more than I would ever imagine.

After all, it is the Glasgow Kiltwalk and as us native Glaswegians know, a Glasgow Girl has to look her best, at all times and who cares what's left in the bank!! and us Kiltwalk Guys love you all for it.

Mhairi will be up the Balloch end on Kiltwalk Day, making sure you are all back safely so when you see her, can you ask when she's getting the other eyebrow done, cause I'm too feirt :-)
