The Shoe Collection

An outreach to a
third world country gives footwear
to those who have not

~ carliewired

Jen, a young and enthusiastic young woman, has inspired students in the school district to care about the needs of others. She has organized a collection of used footwear that will become a contribution to people in Nicaragua.

This morning, I arrived at the collection location, not far from my home, to donate a little time to taping matched pairs together. Experience has taught Jen that only a very special and rather expensive tape works to keep shoes together on the long journey to Nicaragua.

Very soon, these shoes will be passed on to our Kamloops Firefighters who will send the shoes with other donated items to Nicaragua in a shipping container.

It is difficult to imagine how welcome a used pair of shoes might be to someone. Those of us with several pairs in our closet, can't really get our heads around the fact that someone might have to share a pair of shoes. Those shoes might be too small or too big, but sharing them with others might be far more desirable than going barefoot.

Kudos to Jen for her dedication and determination.
