Scary Monsters

I had to brave the cold and snow and head into town this morning.

It was amazing how quiet the roads were - why is it a wee bit of snow scares the bejeezus out of people (especially in a car)?

Picked up Dads death certificate and then went to register it.
What a nice lady the Assistant Registrar was (although she wouldn't let me take her picture ........ too shy). She said she would if she could wear her reindeer antlers and red nose ........... then chickened out of the deal.

After that it was round to the University Medical Dept to fill in the paperwork for Dads body to go to the for teaching/research purposes.
Once again (Mum donated her body too) the staff were super in their dealing with us and went out of their way to put us at ease and explain everything.
Believe it or not, they only need about 50 bodies a year for teaching the 250 medical students.
But they can hardly advertise so rely on word of mouth and last year they only had 23 families donate.
A lot of that is down to Government policy of a few years ago when they pushed more 'Community Medicine' teaching and anatomy/physiology etc were given less time.
This meant that only about 10 bodies were required.
Scary that 250 potential doctors were given very little teaching on what an actual person looked like or how they were put together.
However, a campaign led by Scottish surgeons led to a change in the law regarding anatomy teaching and research has meant that once again students are getting the 'hands on' teaching required to ensure our doctors and surgeons are capable of looking after us properly.
This change in the law has meant that the numbers of donations need to increase - Let us hope htings go well for the University.

Spread the word people ............... our (future) doctors need you - literally

Oh - by the way ........... the blip is the skeleton of a juvenile Indian Elephant in the Medical Building

PS - forgot to say .... my alternative Blip was the Shrunken Cop Car.

How can you take then seriously when they turn up in one of these?
Pride in the job has gone right out of the window
