The Beacon on Birk Brow Bank

I had great plans for today: a trip to Whitby and a blip from the Abbey.

Frustratingly, 50,000 other people also had the notion to descend on Whitby. There were tailbacks galore, hundreds of riders on scooters, a chapter of bikers known as Satan's Slaves and absolutely nowhere to park. Even my mother's disabled parking permit was of no help.

So we had to give up. As a consolation, my blip today is the beacon at the top of Birk Brow Bank near Guisborough which plays a part in the beacon chains that sometimes commemorate national and royal events.
