Dwarf Iris

If, after the Iris reticulata and other bulbed iris are done, you have a hankering for iris blossoms in the garden before tall bearded iris are ready for their show, the little hybrids and cultivars of Iris pumila might be just what you want. They bloom here about the same time as the trilliums and I have them growing in the same area of the garden. This flower is about 3 inches across held on a stalk that is just 8 inches tall. They are flourishing and prospering at the edge of the rock garden where they get plenty of sun and excellent drainage.
