The Neath Gas Tram

This Neath Gas Tram is believed to be the only historical gas powered tram still in existence in Britain.
Built for the opening of the Blackpool, St Annes and Lytham Railway in 1896 it was brought to Neath together with two of its companions to work on the tram system built by The British Traction company in 1899.
The tramway ran from Britton Ferry to Skewen by way of the depot in London Road Neath town centre.
By 1920 the gas trams had been abandoned in favor of motor buses, and they were sold off.
You can see this tram at Cefn Coed colliery museum along with some other amazing exhibits. The colliery had the unenviable name as ( The Slaughterhouse)
due to so many fatalities.
