Woodie

I saw this female Greater Spotted Woodpecker at a Nature Reserve today. It is a little bigger than a starling , boldly marked black and white, with red vent and under tail coverts. It's habitat is usually anywhere from large trees to woodland to hedgerows , parks and gardens, indeed , will even occasionally perch on telephone poles, but needs woodland at least 2-3 ha in extent for breeding. She was very impressed with the fat balls .
