Bavaria, Mittenwald: snow in the mountains

It's difficult to reconstruct events so long ago, the photos taken then are the only clues. The date of this photo was a Friday, so it was presumably one of Bavaria's many religious holidays.

I had travelled down from Munich to Mittenwald by train with at least on other travelling companion. I don't remember whether Mittenwald had a railway station at the time - if not, we would have disembarked at Garmisch and then walked.

The writing on the cardboard frame of this transparency is "Mittenwald St. Anton - view south towards mountains". The St. Anton may have been our Gasthaus, there is no other possible explanation.

Beautiful weather, the Alpine landscape still covered in snow. The mountains are probably in the Karwendel range, to the east of Mittenwald.

We would be heading southwards to Innsbruck (in nearby Austria) tomorrow.
