The Olympic Way

I was at Wembley Arena this evening to see the "Dancing On Ice" live show. Sharing the judges' stage at one end of the ice rink were five Winter Olympians - Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, Karen Barber and Nicky Slater, and the great Robin Cousins.

The train trundles back and forth past Wembley Stadium on my daily commute, so it's a familiar sight to me these days. But I will always remember the first time I picked out its famous soaring arch, curving high above the giant stadium like a white rainbow, dominating the landscape around it. I was in a plane flying over London on the approach into Heathrow, on my way home from the 2004 Summer Olympics.
