Up a Gum Tree?

I spotted this tree in a garden just round the corner from where my Dad lives. It's huge, but I'd never really looked at it before, and I wonder if it could be an Australian Gum Tree as it looks rather similar with the light coloured, peeling bark. Maybe it's just something in the same family. Anyone know?

Had a good day today - lots of useful shopping done in town, various things sorted for Dad at home, and we also managed a walk in the afternoon as it was lovely and sunny and quite warm.
