Grey squirrel

Today's the day ....................... for an invasive non-native

When we moved to Kendal twenty-two years ago, there were red squirrels in the neighbourhood. I even remember seeing one in our garden.

Now, they are long gone and this is the only kind that you will ever see round here. The grey squirrel is classed as an invasive non-native species in the UK - having been introduced at various locations since the 19th Century. It was the Victorians, who regarded the grey squirrel as an exotic species who first introduced them into the UK in 1876. What a shame they did - or, at least, that's what I think!

And cute though this one may seem to some people, give me the reds every time .......................
