Les Invalides, Paris

Commissioned by Louis XIV, Les Invalides is a set of buildings including a hospital for war veterans, military museum and the famous domed chapel of St Louis-des-Invalides.

The main building was completed in 1676, designed in the baroque style by Liberal Bruant. The dome was added in 1707, architected by Jules Hardouin Mansard after Bruant's death.

On 14th July 1789, Parisians looted the guns from here to storm the Bastille.
