Bergenia Stalk

Bergenia plants (Elephant Ears) appear to flower as early as February and as late as May depending on the local conditions, and even the particular site in the same garden. This plant group in my front garden has developed strong red stalks and purplish flowers rather than the pinkish flowers that I photographed in March in a sheltered spot under the leylandii hedge in the back garden. From a low angle the stalks becomes the plant's most striking feature, and not its elephant's ear leaves!
