A view from Jeanneb

Chasing the Sunset.

This was actually taken Thursday night but posted on Friday and therefore the wrong date was attached - the i-pad doesn't ask you to check the date!

A very wild night followed by a much calmer day. After a walk on the beach where we spotted Goosanders the sun came up for a lovely if rather cool day.

After lunch we headed back to Ullapool to climb Ullapool Hill. No chance of getting lost, excellent way marks paths. We climbed up through the ubiquitous yellow gorse which is everywhere at this time of year but is very famous on this hillside above Ullapool.

The route we chose extended beyond this to a barren hill with views up to the head of Loch Broom and out to sea past the Summer Isles. Also the back of 'our' mountains that we can see across Achnahaird beach - Ben More Coigach; Cul Beag; Cul Mor (which  both had a little fresh snow on first thing, this morning) and Canisp. We returned past some ver fine houses on the Braes of Ullapool - 4.67 miles.

A drink followed by fish and chips made this a perfect afternoon.

On return the views of our mountains were perfectly clear so options for a blip were plenty but at 8.45 Chris suggested we head  up to the view point over Alt'andhu for a view of the sunset. It was clear as we got there that we needed to be further round so we rushed down to Reiff the furthermost village on the peninsula but it had gone behind a cloud and then we were too far down (no parking as the lay-bys are passing places). We headed to the bay  where  I rushed out and took these.

First the light from behind the hill illuminating the sheep; then the rays passing through a rough old stone wall with a wee bird on the right hand side and finally over the sea just before it disappeared below the horizon.

I bet the poor people of Reiff get fed up of tourists doing this. I did spot a guy with a tripod as we sped along the narrow road. Don't think his would be,as interesting as mine!

BACK BLIP YESTERDAY. Windy Wednesday.
