An unusual Boxing Day

Far, far away, in a galaxy very remote from shopping centres, sales and big tables covered in the most delicious foods. With chilly bins (that's NZ name for an esky, i.e. plastic box for keeping food and drink chilled on the beach), 2 cars and a full dozen in them, we set off to spend a day on the beach of course. Water was good. Hanna loved playing with the waves and body board for most of the day, with a few breaks to build a castle, using her new, gigantic bucket.
From a birding perspective it was also very exciting, as our Mr Host spotted while driving (there should be adverts warning of birding and driving at the same time) a laughing cookaburra. We came to a halt and had a good 5 minutes to admire the bird on the wire. Then it flew away, as they usually do. Unless they are penguins. And we had fish & chips for dinner on the grass watching ducks trying to steal our food. How different can a Boxing Day get?
