Foxy Lady

This tall beauty immediately caught my eye when I stopped by Allied Arts today!

Tonight is the 14th annual Children's Art Walk in downtown Bellingham, with artwork by school children throughout Whatcom County on display in store windows this month, and loads of special activities tonight.

Christian Anne Smith, the artist who made this lovely "Fox Lady" community puppet, will be at Allied Arts this evening to encourage kids to make "teeny-tiny junk puppets" and try them out in "Andy’s puppet theater," just the right size for small children.

Among the other exuberant artwork at Allied Arts are nearly 100 folktale puppets (see some here) made by local 4th graders (9-10 years old) and a wall full of beguiling birds created by 2nd graders (7-8 years old), using both oil pastels and water colors.

Every child's artwork receives a "Congratulations for Participating" bookmark -- there is no judging, only joy.
