The Red Skelton Museum!

...in a shoestore, Auburn, California. Talk about your random travel experiences--finding this tribute to old-time comedian Red Skelton is right up there with the marble museum in Nebraska and the collection of up-ended cars buried in the Texan desert. What's funny is that I went into the shoe store the first time and never looked up--I was busy checking out the shoes. Then we walked on, and further down the street saw a poster describing the museum. Back to the store we went, and bingo--when you looked up there it was--a collection of paintings by the man himself, and photos, movie posters and other ephemera galore, all of it almost at ceiling level, some bits covered up by tall leather boots and boxes of overstock. I remember Red Skelton from early television, and here's to ya Klem Kladdiddlehopper, you did make us laugh even though you were a really strange painter.
