Dawyck

Rejoining the world of Blipfoto (on holiday the internet speed was so slow that Blipfoto wouldn't play, so there's a stack of back-blipping to do).

I spent a few pleasant hours at Dawyck Botanic Garden, where the Rhododendrons were at their very spectacular best. It was a perfect overcast day with even light, but there was a slight breeze; sufficient to keep the flowers on the move. After some experimenting (thank goodness for digital), I evolved a technique with bounced off-camera flash plus a reflector held on the opposite side of the flower to throw some light back into the shadows. This specimen appealed to me for its almost vulgar, luscious, brilliance. There are some more examples here.
