Time to leave

The first time I came to Palma was back in the early 1980s on Freddie Laker's first Airbus A300 flight from Manchester to Majorca. The plane was packed with travel agents who were entertained to a boozy lunch in a big hall when Laker was lowered in to the throng on a trapeze. His business went bust in 1982 owing over £280m. But by then Laker, one of Mrs Thatcher's blue-eyed boys, had been knighted. He died in 2006. This yacht has the right idea. I flew out on one of the many cheap flights, ubiquitous now, but not when Laker was trying to break the strangle-hold on routes dominated by the big airlines such as BA. Hero or failure? I guess that's entrepreneurism for you.

A few other shots from the trip.
