Life in Newburgh on Ythan

A listed building is rescued

Peterhead is famous for its pink granite and most of the historic centre of the town was built from it. This fine example of a granite building is the old Caledonian Ship Chandling Warehouse, built on the edge of the harbour in 1805. Until recently the building was in a very bad state and was listed on the Scottish Buildings at Risk Register. Recently, however, half of the building has been beautifully restored and converted into affordable flatted properties. Hopefully the other half will shortly follow suit.
