View of Eight Man Boats with Coxswain

5/5/2014 ~ View of Eight Man Boats with Coxswain practicing on Union Bay while walking along the Lake Washington Ship Canal Waterside Trail, Montlake Neighborhood, Seattle, WA

Evening walk along the waterside trail on a day with weather changing and big clouds rolling through the area. A lot of teams were practicing this evening, boats coming and going between Portage Bay and Union Bay through the Montlake Cut as they headed out to Lake Washington. Rowing back from Union Bay through the Montlake Cut was have helped the boat speed since all the rain water we been having is heading in that direction as it moves to the Puget Sound.

The water in the lake is extremely high at the moment due to all the rain. Some of the connecting bridges along the water trail going from land to the walkway docks were under water in places. When I was down at the Ballard Locks yesterday the Spillway Gates were open and the water was pouring through. A photo can be seen here. The water from the Lake Washington watershed passes through the ship canal and fresh water meets salt water at the Water over the Spill Gates at Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (Ballard Locks).

Another photo from today can be seen here of a canoe out on Union Bay as well.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Monday!
