Lago di Como

Took a day off revision for a trip up to Lake Como which is only an hour out of Milan, half an hour even if you pay the extra to take the fast train. Arrived in the Como the village but immediately hopped on the boat which heads further north up the lake. We'd originally planned to get the coach as its cheaper and quicker but the boat was so worth it. The scenery is beautiful and you get a much better view of all the different villages surrounding the lake. Considering how hot it was down on the lake, its crazy that you can still see the snow topped mountains in the distance. We were headed to Menaggio, which is just one stop further from Bellagio possibly the most well known village on the lake. They are all absolutely beautiful though. We'd been told we might be able to swim at Menaggio but as it turned out the beach was closed which was a shame. But we were able to have lunch in a really pretty piazza and then sunbathed by the side of the lake before heading back on the boat. Now everything had been going pretty smoothly until this point, so something was bound to happen... We made it in perfect time for a train back to Milan and even got good seats. After about fifteen minutes it slowed to a halt and the lights went out. Weird but it started again shortly after. We drew up to a station in the middle of nowhere, when I say a station I literally just mean a platform, and stopped. Suddenly a man began shouting something about a fire and people started getting off the train, although not looking particularly perturbed. We followed them off and all gathered on the platform and still there was no sign of a fire, or any other problem for that matter. Once everyone was off, the train started moving further along the platform before stopping once more. A couple of seconds passed and we were allowed back on, still slightly confused as to what had happened. We carried on for a while with no significant problems (except maybe the lack of lights) until the next major station before yet again we were made to get off, this time to wait for the next train to Milan. Still unclear as to why but at least I can say I've seen Saronno as well as Como...
